How does Azithromycin work?
Like other Antibiotics, azithromycin stops bacteria from growing by blocking protein synthesis at the ribosome, the structure inside bacteria that builds their proteins. Half the drug takes about 68 hours to leave the body, because it is taken up widely into tissues and released slowly. This means the medicine stays in lung and sinus tissue after the last tablet is taken.
