How does Carbimazole work?
Carbimazole blocks the enzyme in the thyroid gland that assembles new hormone from iodine and amino acids. With that step interrupted, the gland cannot produce fresh thyroid hormone, and the hormone already in the blood is used up over time.
The medicine slows production without destroying thyroid tissue. The gland stays intact, so it can resume normal output once the medicine is stopped.
