Cefixime
Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria causing infections such as Bacterial Infections and Otitis Media. Suprax is the only product here, available in 100 mg and 200 mg tablets.
Key points
- Hormonal contraceptives: Cefixime may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives, so an additional method of birth control is needed while taking it.
- Viral infections: Antibiotics like cefixime do not work against colds, flu, or other viral infections, and unnecessary use increases the risk of antibiotic-resistant infections.
- Not interchangeable: Different cefixime formulations are absorbed differently by the body and cannot be substituted for one another without a dose adjustment.
How does Cefixime work?
Like other Antibiotics, cefixime stops bacteria from building their cell walls. Without a strong wall, the bacteria break apart and die. Because it targets a structure that human cells do not have, it fights the infection without harming your own tissue.
