How does Cefuroxime Axetil work?

Cefuroxime axetil is an inactive form that enzymes in the gut convert into active cefuroxime. Once released, cefuroxime attaches to penicillin-binding proteins, the structures bacteria use to build their cell wall. Without a complete wall, the bacterium swells and bursts.
