How does Drospirenone work?
Drospirenone is a spironolactone analogue with antiandrogenic and mild antimineralocorticoid properties. In Yaz, it works alongside ethinylestradiol to suppress ovulation, the primary way combined oral contraceptives prevent pregnancy. Changes in the endometrium contribute a second contraceptive effect.
