Fenofibrate
Tricor is the only fenofibrate product on this shelf, available in 160 mg and 200 mg tablet strengths for people managing high cholesterol and triglycerides.
Key points
- Fenofibrate carries a myopathy warning: the label flags diffuse muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, and marked CPK elevations as signs to watch for.
- Fenofibrate is a fibrate listed under Cholesterol Management for Hypercholesterolaemia and Mixed Dyslipidaemia.
What the muscle warning means
Myopathy is muscle damage that can range from mild soreness to severe breakdown. At the severe end, rhabdomyolysis involves rapid destruction of muscle tissue that releases proteins into the bloodstream and can strain the kidneys. Creatine phosphokinase (CPK) is an enzyme that leaks into the blood when muscle cells are damaged, so a blood test measuring CPK levels can identify drug-related muscle injury rather than ordinary aches.
