Key points

  • The label carries a boxed warning that NSAIDs increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, including heart attack and stroke, which can be fatal.
  • Meloxicam is not suitable for use in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
  • Mobic is also indicated for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, not only the adult forms.

How does Meloxicam work?

Meloxicam blocks the enzymes that produce prostaglandins, the chemicals that drive pain, swelling and fever in inflamed joints. Reducing prostaglandin production calms the inflammation behind osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis without masking the underlying joint damage. It sits in the Pain & Anti-inflammatories group.
