Prednisolone (sold as Panafcortelone) is a corticosteroid used for Inflammatory Conditions and Allergic States. One tablet product comes in four strengths, from 5 mg to 40 mg.

Stopping and stress dosing

Prednisolone is a corticosteroid in the Pain & Anti-inflammatories category that calms the immune system and reduces inflammation. It also suppresses the adrenal glands’ own steroid production, so after three weeks or more of daily use the dose needs to be tapered rather than stopped. A fever, infection or surgery can leave the body unable to mount its usual stress response, meaning the dose may need to be increased for a short period rather than reduced. For less severe conditions, an alternate-day schedule may be possible to limit this suppression.
