How does Propranolol work?
Propranolol blocks the action of adrenaline on the heart and blood vessels. By stopping these signals, it slows the heart rate and widens the arteries, which lowers blood pressure and reduces the amount of oxygen the heart muscle needs.
Because propranolol is fat-soluble, it crosses into the brain. That is how it prevents migraine attacks and reduces essential tremor, though it may also cause tiredness or vivid dreams.
