How does Azathioprine work?

Azathioprine is a thiopurine immunosuppressant. The body converts it into active metabolites that interfere with purine synthesis, the process immune cells rely on to build DNA and multiply. With fewer purines available, white blood cell growth slows. That reduced immune activity is the basis for its use in Autoimmune Support conditions and transplant medicine.
