How does Lurasidone work?

Lurasidone blocks dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, which reduces the hallucinations and disordered thinking of schizophrenia. It partially activates 5-HT1A receptors, contributing to its antidepressant effect in bipolar depression. The molecule has low affinity for histamine and muscarinic receptors, so weight gain and heavy sedation are less likely than with some other antipsychotics.
