How does methotrexate work?
Methotrexate blocks an enzyme called dihydrofolate reductase, which cells need to build DNA and RNA. Without those building blocks, fast-dividing cells cannot multiply. In rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis, this slows the overactive immune cells and skin cells that cause joint swelling and scaly patches.
