  • Entresto is also used to treat certain types of heart failure in children aged 1 year and older.

How does sacubitril work?

Sacubitril blocks an enzyme called neprilysin, which breaks down signalling molecules that regulate blood volume and vessel width. With neprilysin inhibited, those molecules stay active longer, easing the workload on a heart that cannot pump efficiently. Valsartan adds a second action: it blocks a natural substance that tightens blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly. The two ingredients work in parallel to reduce the strain a failing heart carries.
