Key points

  • Androgen-receptor blocker: Enzalutamide stops testosterone and other male hormones from attaching to cancer cells, slowing the growth of prostate cancer.
  • Four disease stages: Xtandi is indicated for metastatic hormone-sensitive, metastatic castration-resistant, high-risk non-metastatic castration-resistant, and high-risk biochemical recurrence prostate cancer.
  • Not for women: Xtandi must not be given to women who are or may become pregnant.

How does Enzalutamide work?

Enzalutamide blocks the receptors on prostate cancer cells where testosterone and other male hormones attach. Without those hormones latching on, the cancer cells lose the signal they need to survive and multiply.

This makes enzalutamide a form of hormone therapy within Prostate Health. It starves cancer cells of the male hormones they depend on to grow.
