Patient summary
Enzalutamide capsules for prostate cancer. They block male hormones like testosterone from helping cancer grow.
Mechanism of action
Xtandi contains enzalutamide, a medicine that blocks the action of male hormones called androgens, including testosterone. Prostate cancer cells need androgens to grow. Enzalutamide works at multiple steps in the androgen receptor signalling pathway by preventing androgens from attaching to their receptors on cancer cells and blocking the receptors from sending growth signals to the cell nucleus. This helps slow the growth of prostate cancer and delay the spread of the disease.
Drug interactions
strong CYP2C8 inhibitors; CYP3A4 inducers; CYP3A4 substrates with narrow therapeutic index; CYP2C9 substrates with narrow therapeutic index; CYP2C19 substrates with narrow therapeutic index; warfarin; clopidogrel
Age restrictions
